The Lawrence Hall of Science is hosting Happy Creepy Halloween with some scary (but kid-friendly) activities including pumpkin launching with Pioneers in Engineering.
Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative provides students and community members with a means to recycle their candy wrappers, and also to raise awareness of single-use waste and encourage conservation behavior. They also provide a lesson plan for others to join in!
Queens Botanical Garden is hosting their seventh annual Pumpkin Smash in early November. Smashed pumpkins will be used as fertilizer by the NYC Compost Project for community gardens, street tree beds, and other public grening initiatives, and participants will be provided with information about composting and recycling programs in New York City.
October is also Bat Appreciation Month, and from Bat-O-Ween to Bat Blintz, there are so many ways to celebrate. Consider hosting your own Bat Festival, Urban Bat Walk, or Bat Rehabilitation Workshop!

The Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, Georgia, Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Wehr Nature Center in Franklin, Wisconsin, and the Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary in Liberty, Missouri all introduce community members to their trails under the spooky beautiful moonlight or with the glow of jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.
