The 2025 Ocean Awareness Contest – Connections to Nature: Looking Inside, Going Outside – encourages youth ages 11–18 to explore the natural world and share their relationship with it through art, writing, performance, film, or multimedia. Submissions are open now and are due by June 9, 2025.

Professor Eva Ärlemalm-Hagsér (Mälardalen University, Sweden), Professor Victoria Carr (University of Cincinnati, United States) and Dr Sue Elliott (University of New England, Australia) have been invited by Bloomsbury Publishers to be lead editors of the first handbook on early childhood education for sustainability (ECEfS). We are now calling for chapter abstracts.

Symbolic Monarch Migration

Uniting youth across North America through the exchange of paper butterflies and letters! The Symbolic Monarch Migration mimics the migration of monarch butterflies to Mexico in the autumn and their return North in the spring. Students in the USA and Canada send life-sized paper butterflies in the fall and receive different paper butterflies from the participating groups in the spring plus a letter from a student in Mexico. Students in the USA and Canada also create Ambassador Folders as gifts for students in Mexico.

The National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) is thrilled to announce that registration for the Fall 2024 NNOCCI Crash Course is now open! This is a 7-week, 25-hour, online course for those interested in gaining strategic framing skills. NNOCCI is a partnership among climate scientists, informal science educators, and climate communicators with public trust and large audiences.

Seeking HS Teachers for Climate Mental Health Research Study

Are you a pre-service or seasoned high school teacher who is planning on teaching or currently teaching about climate change? Are you grappling with how to explore this topic with your students, knowing that it may bring up a variety of emotions for you and your students? The CIRES Center for Education, Engagement and Evaluation team is seeking high school teachers from across the US to participate in a focus group that will gather information about their experiences, barriers, and needs related to their own climate mental health and in supporting their student’s climate mental health. Participating teachers will join a 90 minute online focus group and will receive $150 for participating in the study.

International Student Art Contest 2025 Science Without Borders® Challenge

The 2025 Science Without Borders® Challenge is now open for submissions with the theme "Marine Keystone Species." This international art contest invites students aged 11–19 worldwide to create artwork highlighting the vital role of keystone species in ocean ecosystems. The contest is divided into two age categories (11–14 and 15–19), with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes available in each category. Students can win up to $500. The submission deadline is Monday, March 3, 2025.
