Interests
I have been teaching environmental science at the high school level for the past 17 years. Prior to that, I worked as an outreach educator for The Watershed Ecology Center and the SCDHEC Green Driver program. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and walking in the woods.

I especially enjoy opportunities to get students outside, whether it's working in our school garden, taking a trip to a local creek to look for macroinvertebrates, or taking a tree walk to learn about native trees. Students seem to connect most to these activities. Each year, as part of my school's week of experiential learning, I lead a hiking trip. I have hiked with students on the Appalachian Trail and in many local and state parks through the years, giving some students their first (and for some perhaps their last) taste of hiking. My daughter, who recently graduated with an Environmental Studies degree, and I coach the Envirothon team for my school. It is a joy to see teenagers so passionate about trees, wildlife, and soils.
