I'm an environmental educator and tour guide for the American Cave Conservation Association at the Hidden River Cave in the town of Horse Cave, Kentucky. I've always thought caves were very interesting places, and in recent years have become very passionate about them and particularly by the life found within caves. I'm grateful that I am able to work in caves and spread awareness on the topic of cave conservation to tourists and students alike.

I have been working here for a year and a half now. It's my first job in environmental education. When I first started here, I was balancing college and a part-time job, and I needed another part-time job. There was one person working environmental education here at the time, the education director, and she asked if I would like to help with it, and I decided to give it a shot. I've always wanted to work in conservation or education, or at least give jobs in those fields a shot, and having worked here a year and a half, I can confidently say that being able to do work in both is amazing. In this past year and a half, I have worked with over a thousand students, doing a number of different activities. From exploring our cave to teaching about the animals inside to teaching about how pollution on the surface can affect a groundwater system and much more. It's a place where a kid can both learn and really have fun, and I've had students who have come back with their families just to get more of the cave. I've always thought caves were amazing places, and working here, I have been able to take opportunities to see a different, non-tourist side of these environments, including restricted sections of the Mammoth Cave. This has deepened my passion for these environments and getting to take students with a similar fascination into our cave is something I love doing.
