I have taught both kindergarten and first grade in my 12 years of teaching experience. I have taught in South Central Pennsylvania my entire career, but have axperience in both the urban and rural settings. I have a love of teaching science and showing students it relates to everyone, regardless of where you live. I have been incorperating environmental education lessons into the curriculum for many years, generally also connecting it with literacy work.

I began teaching enviromental lessons as early as my summers during college. I was the leader for many childrens nature camps at a local park and environmental center. I would teach students about their environment around them, go for hikes, complete stream studies, and why protecting the envieonment is so important. I would teach children ages 4-12. I then taught first grade for four years in an urban setting. The students in this setting where amazed at all of the parts of our world they had not yet experienced. I strived to being real life lessons to the students while creating a classroom full of curiosity. I then taught both first and kindergarten in a rural setting. We would also incorperate the environment in many lessons, but these students had a wider range of experience and background knowledge of the environment around them. The school was located at the foothills of a large state forest which also included two large lakes that students would frequently visit. I could more easily speak of and create hands on learning for the students as we had access to a walking trail and grassy outdoor space.
