My name is Jillian. I'm passionate about marine science education through digital and in-person teaching. Working at the North Carolina Aquarium at Roanoke Island was my first experience in environmental education, and I loved it! While finishing my undergraduate degree in Environmental and Marine Sciences at UNC-Chapel Hill, I had the opportunity to take a class about informal education, which opened my eyes to this profession. I can't wait to learn more! I'm currently working on my NCEE certification.

I love to be out on the estuaries to discover what's out there. I'm a marine invertebrate enthusiast! I think they are the coolest creatures on our planet, and the closest to aliens I'll ever see. I've taken marine invertebrate classes at UNC and Duke, and I love learning more about their lives, habitats, reproduction, and more. My current position as communications specialist for the NC Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve has given me an opportunity to share more about the unique NC estuarine ecosystem. On our twitter, Instagram (@ncreserve), and Facebook, I share weekly #WildlifeWednesday videos of different estuarine critters. Tuesdays I have trivia tuesdays on Instagram stories, and more! Science communication is fun and I love seeing people respond to what I put out there.
