Over the past 18 years, Lee has made the U.S. Botanic Garden a rich resource for students and teachers. One of her creations is the HOPS (Hands-On Plant Science) program, an immersive environmental science program for DC urban youth. She is the 2017 recipient of the AHS Jane L. Taylor Award.
