As Education Director for Vashon Nature Center, Maria coordinates hands-on science education programs in public schools, facilitates community education classes and workshops, manages seasonal high school interns, and assists with community science monitoring research. Maria has over 25 years of experience in informal education designing and delivering outdoor, place-based, hands-on education with a focus on community science. She has been with Vashon Nature Center since 2016.

- Creates hands-on outdoor education in partnership with the Vashon Island School District during a period where program delivery grew from two grades (6th and 9th) serving 200 students to over 685 students in grades 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12.
- Provides teacher professional development training in best practices for outdoor education aligned with classroom learning, developing meaningful watershed education experiences, incorporating community science, and designing student-led action projects.
- Writes place-based NGSS-aligned curriculums.
- Designs and delivers community education workshops, classes, and walks.
