Rick is passionate about nature and promoting accessibility for all kids to have access to transformative outdoor experiences. An Americorps/Volunteer Maryland alum, Rick believes strongly in the value of service in the development of people and communities and as an integral part of high quality education.
Rick currently serves as Director of Education at NorthBay, where he has spent the past 18 years integrating his passions into one of the largest outdoor schools in the country and ensuring accessibility for students, regardless of resources. Prior to NorthBay, Rick’s career in outdoor education included roles in volunteer program management at Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, teaching at Stone Mountain School and George Mason University, and wilderness therapy in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Rick is active in the nonprofit and education communities, continuously providing service to various boards and advisory councils including the Homeless Education State Advisory Council, Gifted and Talented Advisory Council, National Outdoor School Evaluation Committee, National Outdoor School for All Legislative Committee, Scorpion Creek Ranch and various private schools.
Rick holds a bachelor's degree in recreation and parks and graduate certificates in volunteer program management, nonprofit management, and social innovation and entrepreneurship. Rick lives in North East, MD with his wife Salena and their children, Gideon and Juniper.
