Due to the significant operational and economic impacts of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Education Workgroup has identified an urgent need to provide financial assistance to environmental education providers. This financial assistance will provide organizations with critical support to retain staffing as their operations pivot from place-based environmental education to virtual platforms and physically distanced schoolyard programs.

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation’s (DDCF) Environment Program is launching a new initiative to support diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) capacity building in U.S. conservation organizations. Grants of up to $60,000 over two years will be awarded to approximately 11–12 organizations to support activities that allow them to sustain or accelerate their DEI organizational change efforts.

Youth River Education and Recreation Grants

River Network

The National Park Service and River Network are pleased to announce a grant opportunity to fund projects that develop and/or expand “on-water” education, recreation, and/or cultural preservation programs for youth and young adults. Supported projects will include diverse partner organizations that work together to enhance and expand availability of recreational, educational, and cultural preservation opportunities and programming for youth and adults on land and on water.

Students and/or professors at U.S. colleges and universities: apply to get a FlowCam automated microscope for up to 4 months, and travel support to present at a conference (when travel is allowed again). Two grant categories are available: graduate level and undergraduate level. Professors who are not involved in research but wish to incorporate the FlowCam into their curriculum are also encouraged to apply.

Mosaic's new initiative supporting people working to support the environment, just launched an open RFP to make $1 million of rapid response grants to individual nonprofit grassroots organizations, and networks of them, focused primarily on environmental protection and/or environmental justice to fund tools & technology, training, and related resources needed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding will support local nonprofit organizations serving the health, nutrition, and special education needs of underserved children impacted by school closures nationwide

Libby Kingseed Grant Award to Support Teaching with Deliberation

North Carolina Sea Grant is accepting applications for a new fellowship that will place graduate students, who have been trained at North Carolina institutions of higher education, into state government offices as science and technology fellows.

USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture is accepting applications for the Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Fields (WAMS) Program.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is pleased to announce the availability of funding for organizations with the interest and capacity to work cooperatively with the USFWS to develop hands-on educational and mentoring experiences for youth, young adults and veterans, particularly those from culturally, ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds and underserved communities that traditionally have low participation in conservation and outdoor recreation. Under this program, individuals and/or groups of youth, young adults, and veterans will be introduced to conservation stewardship; rehabilitation activities such as invasive species management and habitat restoration; outdoor recreation; public education and interpretation; disaster response and mitigation; communications; or career opportunities in conservation, natural resource management and related fields.

Win up to $1,000 to fund your dream park experience. Deadline for entries is Friday, February 14, 2020. Winners will be announced on Friday, March 6, 2020.

The Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers who employ innovative approaches to environmental education and use the environment as a context for learning. Up to two teachers from each of EPA's 10 regions, from different states, will be chosen.

The White House Council on Environmental Quality, in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administers this award to honor, support and encourage educators who incorporate environmental education in their classrooms and teaching methods.

The Pisces Foundation is excited to announce a new funding opportunity designed to strengthen and build the capacity and cultural relevance of environmental education at scale, recognizing that when kids gain the environmental know-how they need to thrive in our rapidly changing world, we’ll see smarter decisions, stronger communities, and daily actions that improve their well-being and our planet.

Pisces is now accepting project inquiries for a round of grants that will range in amount from approximately $5,000 up to $150,000 for a 12-month period. We will award grants to nonprofit organizations and their collaborators that seek to build the capacity, cultural relevance, and professional development of the environmental education field in their given state or region. Eligible nonprofit organizations in this category are often referred to as backbone organizations working to support, strengthen, and further develop the field throughout their region.
