We often speak about equitable engagement with our communities — but what does this actually look like in practice?

In this session we'll discuss how nature centers and related organizations can engage with their communities, create equitable access to the outdoors, and get kids outside. Facilitators will share how The Discovery Center in Philadelphia uses “Standards of Excellence” to engage the community around them, and the steps Mitchell Lake Audubon Center in San Antonio is taking to be a conservation action center for everyone. We'll also have time to discuss what steps your center is taking to engage equitably.

This program is part of the Association of Nature Center Administrators (ANCA) CONNECTS: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Discussion Group, which allows professionals in our field to share experience and insights with each other, exchange relevant resources, and make plans for action. Anyone who wants to advance DEI efforts within their organization is welcome. If you’re just curious about this work, starting out recently, or you have years of experience, we invite you to join us for learning and sharing together.
