Beyond the Ice: The Interconnected Arctic Mosaic Exploring Arctic Systems and Communities

Embark on an illuminating five-week journey into the rapidly evolving Arctic, a region at the forefront of unprecedented planetary change and intensified global challenges. This virtual, asynchronous, self-paced course from Wild Rose Education runs during four terms a year, requiring at least 15 hours of engagement. The winter term begins January 24, 2026.

"Beyond the Ice: The Interconnected Arctic Mosaic" offers an interdisciplinary survey framed by the Polar Literacy Principles and UN Sustainability Goal Learning Objectives. You will explore the Arctic’s unique environment, analyze accelerating environmental transformations (including melting ice and permafrost thaw), and understand the central role of Arctic Peoples. The course promotes a holistic understanding by actively weaving together Indigenous Knowledges with Western science and research.

This course is designed for a diverse audience, including formal and non-formal educators, early career professionals, students, and lifelong learners seeking to build a foundational understanding of this vulnerable polar region. Participants have the potential to earn 15 hours of continuing education credits or Optional Graduate Credit Hours through Adams State University.
