Citizen Science: By the People

Unleash the power of collective discovery in this dynamic seven-week asynchronous virtual course from Wild Rose Education. Designed as graduate-level professional development for educators, communicators, and community leaders, the course fundamentally reshapes how you view science and engagement.

You will delve into the principles and priorities of community-based science (CBS) by exploring cutting-edge outdoor environmental projects, including pollinator monitoring, water quality investigations, marine mammal ecology, and bioblitzes. You will master practical skills by collecting rigorous, relevant data for real-world research and by participating in two citizen science projects, making a minimum of 12 observations for each.

Beyond data collection, the course offers a deep understanding of the societal impact of CBS, revealing it as an accessible and vital pursuit that serves as a powerful tool for scientific advancement, environmental activism, and fostering robust community engagement. You will gain the tools and strategies necessary for implementing your own impactful CBS projects tailored to your unique context and educational standards.

The course requires approximately 30 hours of asynchronous, self-paced learning over seven weeks.

Credit Options: Professional Development (30 CEU hours) or Optional Graduate Credit Hours (2 credits) from Adams State University.
