Natural disasters and impacts of climate change lead to new forms and patterns of migration and displacement. This presentation unpacks the conceptual underpinning and complexity of environmental refugees and their defenders within the existing discourse of human rights and humanitarian aid. We will use the case study of Thailand after the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004 to draw out key lessons and next steps.
