Sustainable Invention: Where have all the plastics gone?
Would you like to engage middle school students through invention?
Are you a middle school science teacher in Oregon?
OREGON TEACHERS ONLY: Join us to participate in a 1 graduate credit remote learning course designed to investigate the pedagogy and practice of sustainable invention. The training will provide tools for fostering student-driven exploration and interdisciplinary material science and engineering concepts articulated in NGSS. This multi-district collaboration will feature local teacher leaders as well as a team of experienced sustainable invention educators.
By engaging your students with the problems of plastics and the potential of alternatives they can more deeply investigate topics such as Climate Change and Environmental Justice and develop a deeper understanding of real world applications of sustainable invention to solve complex challenges. Through a combination of virtual and hands-on activities (supplies to be provided) and peer to peer learning, participants walk away with a tool kit of open access resources.
Course topics include:
Place-based, phenomena driven education
Designing real world sustainable inventions
Engaging students to develop explanations through discourse
Additional asynchronous office hour support available
$150 to enroll + $65 (optional) for 1 graduate credit from CSM*
Free for Oregon Educators.
