Teaching Climate Change Essentials Teacher Course

6-week Asynchronous Course with Synchronous Opportunities—Starts September 30, 2024

A 6-week online teacher professional development course designed to equip elementary, middle, and high school teachers with knowledge, skills, and resources to integrate climate change into their existing curriculum, regardless of their grade level or subject area. Synchronous webinars are held three times in this course, but teachers can view the webinar recording if they are unable to join live. Upon completion, 18 hours of continuing education credit will be offered.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain the fundamentals of climate science literacy.
  • Analyze how climate change impacts the planet and people, especially people in marginalized communities.
  • Design entry points to include these fundamentals in a variety of existing K–12 curricula.
  • Discover and adapt curricula and resources for use in classrooms.
  • Compare and contrast climate change solutions that teachers and students might participate in personally, locally, and globally.
