The Master of EE Program at the University of MN Duluth is accepting applications for Fall 2024 admission.  Applications are due February 1, 2024.

On the shores of Lake Superior, Duluth is an ideal place to earn your Master of Environmental Education degree.

We offer a wide variety of experiential learning opportunities in conjunction with project-based coursework for a well-rounded graduate school experience. Located in a top outdoor town, step out of the classroom and be inspired by nearby nature and learn from the wealth of outdoor and environmental organizations and networks in our community. Sustainability is at our core, so you have the ability to contribute on and off campus as you learn in our active, environmentally-focused community. Our curriculum is focused on environmental education practice, theory, and research. Join us in contributing to our community, furthering our field, and making a positive impact on future generations.

The MEEd program has two subplans (Plan B and Plan C).  Students in both plans take coursework in core foundations (place-based education, Indigenous Peoples and the environment, theoretical foundations, research methods, and coursework pertaining to applications and/or teaching strategies).

  • Plan B students take additional research coursework and complete a research project.
  • Plan C entails only coursework (no research project).  Either plan can be completed in two years.

The MEEd program has been accredited by the North American Association for Environmental Education
