The Wonders of Water: Practical Ideas and Resources for Educators

Water is essential for life and each of us is part of the water cycle each day wherever we live. Join us for this collaborative workshop where we will discuss all things water education, from our place in the cycle, to the other beings we share the water with, how to study it and how we are linked to the oceans!

Our Presenters:

1. Rochelle Strauss is an educator and an award-winning author whose books are dedicated to building environmental literacy. Her titles include The Global Ocean, One Well: The Story of Water on Earth (over 500,000 copies sold!) and Tree of Life: The Incredible Biodiversity of Life on Earth. Her next book, tentatively called All the Water will be released in spring 2026 and she has a follow up to One Well slated for fall 2026. Her books have been published internationally, translated into several languages, and have been incorporated into curriculum in the US. The Global Ocean is a UNESCO endorsed Ocean Decade Activity.

2. Praise Osifo is the Education Coordinator for Water Rangers, a Canadian non-profit that builds easy-to-use water quality test kits for community scientists to monitor local water bodies. Water Rangers has teamed up with Ocean Diagnostics, a Canadian environmental impact company, to equip the next generation of environmental change-makers with the knowledge and skills needed to address complex global issues—like water quality and plastic pollution.

3. Kirsten Harma is from World Fish Migration Day (WFMD). WFMD culminates every two years in a global celebration to create awareness about the importance of migratory fish and free-flowing rivers. This international day of events is coordinated by the World Fish Migration Foundation. On World Fish Migration Day, organisations from around the world coordinate their own event around the common theme of: Connecting Fish, Rivers & People.

4. As the Manager of Education at Ocean Wise, Daphne Austin helps others connect to the ocean through her years within conservation education and B.Sc. in combined oceanography and biology. An expert in creating connections through online platforms, she brings her passion for inspiring others to make positive actions for the ocean.
