We are developing a new curriculum resource, with eight activities focused on Climate Change and Forests, and are looking for educators to pilot test them. This new resource is being developed through Project Learning Tree Canada (PLT Canada) and will also be adapted for educators in the US through Project Learning Tree (PLT).

Pilot Time frame: September 2022

Who’s needed: Educators of grades 7–12 (formal and nonformal)

To participate: Complete the Pilot Test Participant Application Form by August 25.

Why do it? A small stipend will be available for participants who complete the pilot activity and an online feedback form that will ask about their experience using the activity and any recommendations for improvement. Also, this is your chance to influence one or two new environmental education activities that will be used by thousands of children in Canada and the U.S.!

The topics of the new lessons are:

• Global perspective on climate change and the role of forests in mitigating climate change.
• Carbon footprint and carbon offsetting, with a focus on how these relate to forests
• Sustainable forestry practices and how they can help fight climate change and enhance forest resilience.
• Indigenous perspectives on climate change and forests.
• Implications of climate change to local forests and communities
• Benefits of urban forests for tackling climate change and impact of climate change on urban forests
• Environmental careers related to forests that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation
• Action being taken to protect trees, and forests in the light of global climate change projections and actions youth can take.
