Strengthening sense of Hawaiʻi: cultivating community
relationships through environmental education and
stewardship
ʻAʻAPUEO, Maui—October 7 & 8, 2019 —The Hawaii Environmental Education Alliance eighth annual Environmental EducationSymposium will be hosted for the first time on Maui, offering unique learning opportunities for teachers, conservation professionals, and those interested in or practicing ʻāina-based education. Our primary sponsor, Kamehameha Schools, will host our symposium at the Kula Kiʻekiʻe, High School campus in ʻAʻapueo, Maui.
The two-day event include field trips, interactive workshops,
presentations, and panel discussion. Participants will engage in
hands-on field trips hosted by our Maui community partners and
immerse in interactive workshops and presentations about ʻāina-based education and stewardship.
Our Panel Discussion theme is ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi speakers and
practitioners in environmental education and stewardship; the
perpetuation of practices across generations, building upon our
moʻokūauhau. Collectively, our annual Environmental Education
Symposium will enable participants to give back to our Maui
community and learn of the many enriching and meaningful
environmental education experiences offered in Hawai’i.
