USA-NPN Seeking Teachers to Try Education Materials

Bring phenology, the study of the seasons, to your classroom this Fall!

The USA National Phenology Network seeks teachers wanting to test phenology lesson plans with their students. Phenology is the study of the seasonal and cyclical life cycles of plants and animals. The USA-NPN has a program called Nature’s Notebook, where volunteer observers collect phenology data across the United States. These data are used to track the status of spring, predict the emergence of pest species, and study nectar availability for migrating pollinator species.

We are revitalizing our education materials, and are looking to bring in 5 teachers from different grade levels to provide feedback on our new education site.

Participating teachers will:

  • Attend a virtual workshop on July 23rd, 2022 where they will learn about the Nature’s Notebook program, explore the new site, and select a phenology-related activity to conduct with their students.
  • Carry out the activity with students during August or September of 2022.
  • Participate in a virtual group discussion on September 24th, 2022 where they will provide feedback about their experience with the site and activity.

The deadline for applications is June 17th, 2022 by 4:00 pm PDT. Selections will be made and teachers notified by July 1st, 2022.

Participating teachers will receive a $500 stipend for their time and feedback. To apply, please fill out and submit the Google form.
