Gain an understanding of the role of stewardship we have as part of God’s creation through the Environmental Biology degree at Liberty University.

Our freshman and sophomore science courses are designed to give you a broad background in biology, earth science, chemistry, and physics.

Our upper-level courses build on this base of knowledge as you engage in many “hands-on” experiences during our field labs. For example, you will conduct in-stream impact assessments using electrofishing equipment, use elastomer to mark newts to estimate their population size using mark-recapture methods, map out movement patterns of animals using telemetry, geographical information system software, and global positioning system technology.

Upper-level students also engage in team-based research projects directed by our professors including ecophysiological boundaries of the Peaks of Otter salamander, a species of salamander unique to central Virginia, migration dynamics of the Saw-whet owl in the Piedmont, or box turtle urban ecology. Your degree will prepare you for graduate school, help you to secure industry or government jobs, or become a high school biology teacher.
