Our Climate Voices is a youth-led storytelling platform that centers the voices of those who are most impacted by climate change. In this three-part, 90-minute audio episode, five queer and trans climate justice organizers share the intersection of queer and trans liberation and climate justice. You’ll learn how and why queer and trans voices have been sidelined from the conversation, and how understanding past movements can help us build a better climate justice movement today.

Cultivate Inclusive Learning Environments to Protect the Physical and Mental Well-Being and Rights of Your Students

Expand your knowledge of how we might support our trans and non-binary students and their families with a set of resources curated by the NAAEE JEDIA team. 

The National Education Association also provides resources to be more inclusive of LGBTQ+ history in their classrooms and to stop LGBTQ+ bias and intolerance in our public schools.

A recently released “Guide to Gender Identity Terms” clarifies the language and provides helpful A’s to your Q’s, as does the FrameWorks post on Communicating About Transgender Youth. 

Dive deep into “lists of readings, podcasts, films, music, art, kindred spirits, and more,” curated by the Queer Ecojustice Project.

Advocating for the LGBTQ+ community extends to field scientists as well. Consider what conversations will empower and support those in your academic circles, as noted in the article, "Being Queer in the Jungle: The Unique Challenges of LGBTQ Scientists Working in the Field." Todd Harwell's "Guide to Designing LGBTQ+-friendly Citizen Science Environments" also shares productive ways to approach inclusion in the STEM field.

Organize a screening of the documentary "Fire & Flood: Queer Resilience in the Era of Climate Change." Told through the voices of the community's LBGTQ voices, the film recounts the simultaneous climate-related disasters that occurred in the fall of 2017 and the vulnerability of LGBTQ communities to such climate disasters. Led by uplifting strategies for resilience, transition, and survival, educators can use this film to brainstorm ideas for building more inclusive curricula. Check out the Queer Ecojustice Project's list of suggested readings ranging from LGBTQ+ histories to Indigenous resistance and global movements.
