SECOORA (Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association) is the coastal ocean observing system for the Southeastern United States, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Dedicated to promoting knowledge of coastal ocean observing through accessible resources and student opportunities, SECOORA has created classroom activities tailored to connect with ocean observing. 

Virtual Exploration of Georgia's Coastal Wetlands

This curriculum is designed to connect high school students to the coast from right inside their classrooms. Created by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, it features a Virtual Reality field trip to wetland sites along the Georgia coast. The curriculum empowers students to become better stewards of coastal ecosystems and increases understanding of the benefits and threats to watershed resources. 

Water Shapes Our Planet and Our Lives 4th Grade Curriculum

This fourth grade virtual science unit has hands-on activities on the water cycle, weather, climate, and natural processes that shape the Earth’s coasts and communities.

Wave Resources

Ride the wave and surf SECOORA wave resources. Explore the parts of a wave, access a wave glossary, and investigate the factors affecting wind waves.

Sea Level Rise Curriculum

This curriculum is designed for middle school students to create data visualizations of sea level rise with real data.  Students will spend time brainstorming methods that can be used to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Build-a-Buoy

Basic Observation Buoy (BOB) is a floating platform with capacity to carry a suite of environmental sensors. BOB can be moored to bottom or to a dock in quiet waters.
