Dr Jayne Kinley has extensive professional experience in early childhood education and care and education more broadly, as a practitioner, service manager and professional practice mentor and consultant. Interest in sustainability and environmental teaching practices together with observations of outdoor nature-based practices with young children informed my PhD research topic: Investigating influences on early childhood educators’ outdoor nature-related practices with children from birth to under three years of age. I currently work as a Sessional Academic at the University of New England, Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education (HASSE), NSW; and, am involved in early childhood education research at Southern Cross University, School of Education, Australia.

As the Waste Reducation Coordinator, Shannon works to bring various waste reduction efforts to the citizens of Chatham County, North Carolina by helping to manage the Collection Centers and recycling programs, and providing outreach and education to anyone who is interested in learning more.  Shannon also currently serves on the board of Environmental Educators of North Carolina, an organization dedicated to promoting excellence in professional development and facilitating networking opportunities for members, and inspiring educators to create an environmentally literate citizenry.  Prior positions include Environment Specialist with the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources Division of Air Quality, and Board Member of the Earth Day Alliance of the Lower Cape Fear.

My career has been dedicated to designing and leading programs that inspire stewardship, strengthen partnerships, and create measurable impact. With a background in environmental education, interpretation, and organizational leadership, I have built and scaled initiatives that connect people to landscapes, cultures, and conservation efforts in meaningful ways.

As Chief Program Officer at Yellowstone Forever, I oversee education, Tribal engagement, and park project initiatives that bridge organizations, align priorities, and maximize impact. My work is centered on strategic program development, data-driven evaluation, and fostering collaboration between public agencies, Tribal Nations, and nonprofit partners. Whether developing innovative learning experiences, securing funding for mission-driven projects, or leading multi-organization initiatives, I strive to ensure that conservation efforts remain inclusive, sustainable, and effective for future generations.
