Sonja Bochart has over twenty years of experience as a health and wellness focused project designer, educator and biophilic design consultant. Sonja focuses on design that support both human and ecological health and well-being.
Over the past 18 years, Lee has made the U.S. Botanic Garden a rich resource for students and teachers. One of her creations is the HOPS (Hands-On Plant Science) program, an immersive environmental science program for DC urban youth. She is the 2017 recipient of the AHS Jane L. Taylor Award.
I teach communication and environmental interpretation courses at Asbury University. I chair the Communication program there as well. Significant experience in leading environmental education field courses.
I am with Navigation Games; we create orienteering-based education to get children outside, running around with maps. We are interested in equity of access to nature, human health, and experiencing the outdoors as a first step to awareness around climate change.
I investigate how we can design instruction to help students successfully overcome science denial as it relates to controversial topics, such as climate change. In doing so, I apply the theories of motivation (i.e., motivated reasoning, self-determination theory) and research on conceptual change.
